.DSK Support CoCo 1-2-3 ?

Post by skideric »

I know there is supposed to be support for .JVI/.JV3/JVC CoCo images, although they cannot be selected in drop down list in config. (Works with Auto Detect ?)
All the collections i have are in .DSK format,at least the Floppy ones. Anyway to use these with HxC Converter directly?
Thanks for any/all help with this.
BTW: Just received my SD HxC yesterday. It ROCKS!

An updated beta version is available here with some bugs corrected in the JV3 support and the DMK support added.
https://hxc2001.com/floppy_drive_emulat ... t_beta.zip

For these formats leave the interface mode in "Auto".

Thanks Jeff!
Prob Is ALL CoCo 2-3 Images i have (or found) are in .DSK format & have not located a JVI-JV3-JVC converter for them.
Would Supp for CoCo DSK format be a PAIN?
Really love to be able to test this.
Will Test 1581 supp ASAP.Gotta dig out my 1581.
Thanks Again!

"DSK" file means nothing ;-)
This is probably JVC files. Try to load them with the software.

Just an update. Changed ALL ext to .DMK,Images with size of 161,280 (Most common!)are accepted in HxC converter but show (scroling info) as 1 Side 255 Tracks! They convert to VERY large HFE file (15MB +,i think,Forgot & Del already).Images with size of 256,016 show as 40 Tr 1s,HFE file size = 1,004,544 Bytes.
The BEST size accepted is 224,016 (OS9 Disks),shows as 35 Tr 1s,HFE file Size (Output) = 879,104.Orig size 505,616 shows 40Tr 2s,HFE file = 1,311,744.
Have not Tested in CoCo 2 yet. The HxC could not find CFG file on the OLD 32MB SD Card. Will Test Later Today, with another Card,on CoCo 2 with 501 Drive Pak & report back later. ; 0 )

*****************************************************************************************************************************
Another Update:After setting up another card & finally figuring out the Syntax for Loading CoCo files, sheeeeesh!(New to CocO!) I got an OS9 Level 1 image to Boot to a Menu to select Test Disk/Load OS9 & loaded OS9 to Shell Prompt! But the MOST interesting thing was when i ran the "Test Disk" program. It tested the Disk's (HcX) Speed. It reported Speed = 292.6 RPM, "Disk Speed Is Too Low"! That blew me away!Just shows what a GREAT product HcX truly is.I got the game "Pegasus" to load & run/no prob.A couple others listed Dir,but didn't run.(Maybe Compat Prob CoCo2).Some give strange Chars in Dir list, etc.I believe the problem ones are actually JV1 or JV3 format. But basically it shows the HxC works with TRUE DMK files on the CoCo 2 with the 501 Drive Pak!

BTW: Jeff, tracked down NFO on the DSK format & file types within,JV1-JV3-DMK.Hey I'm learning.

Sorry so late with Update.S00000000000000000000 busy.
Jeff sent me an Email explaining that most of the DSK images were in Raw format. After using the Raw loader with the settings Jeff sent (a Pic of Raw Loader/settings) & Converting them the Dirs were read fine. And after figuring out how to Load & Run BIN files (Still Learning CoCo) they worked fine1 Will try to attach the pic/settings Jeff sent for others interested.
Thanks Jeff for ALL your hard work!

Finally got around to testing the HxC out w/ my Coco 3. After renaming a .dsk to .jvc things worked well. Prior to that I was getting I/O errors. I am also set to Generic Shugart.
Any chance of getting these .dsk files recognized by default? I have a lot and would rather not rename them all.

I'm not having much luck with this. My CoCo 2 makes a click then I get a screen with a S in the top left corner and nothing more ever happens.

How do I know if the source dsk is jv3/jvs or what have you?

Also, could someone send me a test file?
email yell0w_lantern; you can find me at yahoo d0t c0m
