Install SD Floppy Emulator but keeping the floppy disk drive
Install SD Floppy Emulator but keeping the floppy disk drive
Hello Everybody !
I am new on this forum and I have just ordered a SD Floppy Emulator REV C to give my Amiga 500 a second life !
I am worthless in electronic but one of my friend will give me some help in order to install it properly.
However, I would like to leave the original floppy disk drive in place (and keep on using it) since it perfecty works and I wouldn't like to lose my Amiga's orginal spirit ...
It seems that different people have already done this kind of installation.
Could some of you provide me with information regarding how this could be done and setup ; for example a detailed wiring diagram could be a good starting point ?
Thank you in advance for your precious help !!!

Nobody has ever done this before ??
Re: Install SD Floppy Emulator but keeping the floppy disk d
Hi Jeff,
I would like to install a SD floppy emulator without removing the floppy disk drive and then be able to load games from either original disks or from an SD card.
I've seen somewhere on the web someone who did this. A switch fixed on the side of his Amiga then allows to read data from eithers sources. However there is no clear information regarding how this job was done (especially wiring).
Could you give me some help ?

Then you should ask to this guy. I don't know who he is.Vince007 wrote: I've seen somewhere on the web someone who did this. But since you seem to be not very familiar to do some hardware modification (cut and solder some wires to the Amiga & HxC,
floppy cable modification), i just don't recommend you this kind of modification.
Anyway if you really want to do such thing, have a look how the drive selection works (DS0 & DS1 signals). The answer is there. (Part of the answer : just exchange the DS0 & DS1 signals with the switch to the HxC and the floppy drive.)
EDIT: But in fact you didn't tell what to want EXACTLY about the drive selection ! Exchange the drives ? Disable the floppy disk drive ? The HxC ?

Hi everybody ...
I have just finished installing my HxC floopy emulator in my Amiga 500 ... and it works perfectly well !
I first made a Retrobright, finally installed the HxC card instead of the floppy drive, on a plexiglass plate and add additional selection buttons ....
I also replaced the original LEDs with blue homemade ones to give my Amiga a "touch of modernism" !!
Here are some pictures ...
See you ...
