Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Your feedback start to be very odd regarding the results i have here : Are you sure you have updated the firmware ?
The last version should show v4.2.11.2a on the screen. And the test should be done on the ADF files. (I gave up the HFE files cases).

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Thanks. I see that exactly one sector per track still blank. I agree that this appears too regular to be just an timing issue.. or on the contrary this maybe a prefect timing issue... Which usb stick have you used for this test ?ljmarent wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 1:43 amI also gave this one a try...
Flashed the new firmware
Put a fresh copy of empty.adf on the stick
Copied the same MOD file to this empty.adf
It actually loaded into HippoPlayer without errors this time, but playback is messed up
here is the empty.adf that was created with that one MOD file written
empty.adf.zip
I will try the same operation as you with this file.
EDIT : BTW What is your Amiga exactly and which Kickstart and WB version are you using ?
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
So i tried again several times with your mod file with :
- 2 different sticks : a promotional low cost stick and one Sandisk Cruzer Force 16GB
- 2 different Artery Goteks (one QFN and one TQPF64 version)
- A stock Amiga 600 (1MB of RAM, French AZERTY keyboard, PAL 50Hz)
- KS 2.0 (37.300)
- Workbench 40.42 booted from the Gotek.
- The Gotek is connected internally as DF0, its jumper set to S0, no other jumper present.
- 128x32 OLED screen connected to the Gotek
- No configuration file on the stick.
- The above fw v4.2.11.2a installed (viewtopic.php?p=24774#p24774)
- write tests done on the empty.adf file.
I don't reproduce the issue .
What is your current test setup ?
Anyway i will change/improve the cache behavior to be able to store one full track in RAM.

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
I completely agree. That's why a write "batch"/track should be able to be stored temporally into the Gotek RAM.ljmarent wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 2:34 amEven if we find sticks that 'work' now, the latency and throughput speeds of store bought sticks are going to drop as the stick is cycled and ages.
That's just the way it is with NAND flash.
TLC \ QLC \ PLC NAND that is found in commodity USB sticks degrades rapidly, at well below 100 cycles you'll see performance degrade and data retention suffer enough to impact performance.
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Q1) Are you sure you have updated the firmware ?
I'm pretty sure this is being done correctly, I'll go catch a photo
Q2) And the test should be done on the ADF files. (I gave up the HFE files cases)
Each and every test I've done since performing the updates has been on your provided blank.adf file
The worst I've done to that is to rename it, so I could have two instance of the file on one stick
Q3) Which usb stick have you used for this test ?
For that test... I used Kingston DataTraveler micro 3.1 64GB
Though I did repeat that test using the SwissBit SLC 1GB uSD card.. and got this file, which was 'better' but still not perfect. Q4) What is your current test setup ?
My setup is going to be different from the other three (two others have reported here so far)
- Amiga 2000 rev 6.2 motherboard, ECS Denise, ACE2b (PAL mod)
- TF536 (SwissBit 4GB SLC CF) + ZZ9000 RTG
- OS 3.2 WB 47.2 KS 47.96
- Gotek Floppy, OLED, Rotary Encoder (AmigaStore.eu) (fw v4.2.11.2a) (SwissBit 1GB SLC uSD) DF0:
It's a bit early here, but I'll reach out to the others for their build descriptions once they are awake.

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
I do have a second Amiga here if you think it's a host hardware issue:
- Amiga 500 rev 8 motherboard, Indivision ECS, 2MB Agnus (PAL)
- ACA500 (SwissBit 4GB SLC CF + SwissBit 512MB SLC CF) 11MB FastRAM
- ACA1234 50MHz(33MHz) (SwissBit 4GB SLC CF) + 127MB 32bitRAM
- X-Surf-500
- Gotek Floppy, OLED, Rotary Encoder (AmigaStore.eu) (FW 3.7.4.1a) (SwissBit 1GB SLC uSD) DF0:

A2000
Fusion Forty 68040
kickstart 3.2.1 / wb 3.2.1
Gotek Floppy, OLED, Rotary Encoder (AmigaStore.eu) with updated firmware
Kingston 128gb USB stick.
300k mod file appears to write, but is garbled.

v4.2.11.2a
A2000, TF536 68030/64meg @ 50mhz
kickstart 3.2.1 / wb 3.2
Gotek from AmigaStore.eu (not sure exact model but 2-3 weeks old), OLED, Rotary Encoder
Various USB Sticks-
-SanDisk U3 Cruizer 1GB
-SanDisk Cruzer Glide 16GB
-Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 - 32GB
-Generic promotional sticks too, all seem fast/reliable to me.
Maybe you can dump out which mcu or model to a text or log file in the next release...
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
As a further check of my A2000 hardware...
- I pulled an Epson SMD-300 mechanical floppy drive out of my box of stuff and installed it as DF0:
- I put a brand new 3M DSDD disc in the drive, and powered up the A2000
- Formatted the floppy
- Copied the MOD file to the Floppy
- Used Hippo to load the MOD file from the floppy
Plays perfect, no corruption

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Nice machines for sure !
I manage to fit one full adf track in memory .
I hope to release the firmware here tomorrow. (this time i will take more time to test it properly)

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Still no dice here. Copied some .IFF files over and none will open, all garbled.
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
...
Can you share the modified adf file ?
Can you retry with your accelerator board disabled ?
Can you try a smaller usb stick ? (how have you formatted a 128GB usb stick in FAT32 ?)
Maybe there is a relation with the kickstart & wb version. i should try to update my Amiga to check this point.
Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
I can't disable the 040 without making a new CF card/OS to boot from and changing my roms. There is not enough memory in the machine to run 3.2 without accelerator ram. I can try a smaller USB stick and will share the file when I get time later.
I can also try it in my 1200 w/68060 later But I expect similar results.

Re: Some of my HxC Goteks are not writting ADFs
Forum tells me the 420K .rar file is too large to attach.
