Need a trickier one now
Need a trickier one now
Loved my previous floppy adapter for my vintage PC!
Now...
Laptop floppies stink!
This drives motor was too weak to start with.
Now it won't even spin the floppy!
Compaq Armada 7800, drive:314941-001 1.44mb.
Have old drive - plastic case with drive inside.
Opened case- Citizen L102061 A.L.
Ribbon strip (old brown type) drive itself has a slot to slide
in plastic strip (not pins)
I'll be purchasing Aug 3rd. I'd pay slightly more for ready made.
Looks like 26 pins on the single-sided 27mm strip.
The custom plug is on the other end.
So a strip slot (F) to 1.44 adapter (F)

Re: Need a trickier one now
Would you be wanting the old floppy sent?
I know an adapter could be created- by myself if needed-
But I would need to know the pin conversion table, and-
Well... You're the expert, and I wouldn't want to get it WRONG.
Thanks!
Joe

Re: Need a trickier one now
The Slim HxC should do the trick, but a picture is better to judge.

Re: Need a trickier one now
the ribbon look likes to be quite large... are you sure that the contacts pitch is 1 mm ?
Re: Need a trickier one now
My photo is VERY parabolic close up. Sorry. See my pinkie?
This is also a very THIN drive. Note how thick in my palm.
My little wooden ruler eyed very carefully said the
Plastic strip is 26.5mm snuggly.
(About 1 & 1/16")
I checked again just now as I posted.
Ah! Yeah. I see what you mean.
Probably 1mm pitch in Mfg speak.
Using my lighted microscope...
The teeth on the socket... line up on the
1mm marks of my ruler very closely, so
Yup!

Re: Need a trickier one now
Yeah, I'm certain the slim'll fit.
But I'll need pinouts or an adapter before I can proceed.
But, yes.
This page seems the closest, but the part number
Is different:

Would this work?

Re: Need a trickier one now
Oh! You MAKE an FFC (FPC?) version of the slim already!
I didn't know this. You call it the ZIF version- I see it has potential
For both connector types!
Is the ZIF connector actually 26/27mm, 1mm pitch?
Then on the 3rd of August, where can I purchase it?

Thank you!
I'll be able to swing around again in September to get it.
