floppy access LED is permanently lit
floppy access LED is permanently lit
Hello,
I have bought SD Card HxC Floppy Emulator Rev F.
My original floppy disk is Panasonic Model JU-253-403P.
The floppy access LED (left LED) is permanently lit and access through the machine is not successful.
The original Drive has 3 Jumpers:
SW1 RY DC -> DC
SW2 MO MS -> MO
SW3 0123 -> 0
What Jumper settings do I need?
What can I do? Is a firmware upgrade (don't know which is installed) necessary?
Please can you help?

Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
I have installed the latest firmware.
Should I set interface setting Pin2 and Pin 34 manually?
I have found this:
"Another Possible JUMPER that is TYPICAL for Floppy Drives is one labeled MO or MS.
MO is "Spindle Motor Controlled by Motor On Signal, which is Pin 16".
MS is "Spindle Motor Controlled by Drive Select Signal, which could be One of four possibilities".
So, Disk Change (DC) OR Ready (RY) can be routed to Pin 34 by Jumpers, but DC can also be routed to Pin 2, if the Drive has that
OPTION (typically named DC2 Jumper)."
What is the difference between the Disk Change settings?

I f I select Option Drive B input as Drrives Motor ON then the constant lit of led is gone but it flashes constantly. What does this mean?
Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
I receive WESO on the display only when using Jumper Setting ID3A
This can be a hint?

Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
Are you sure that the floppy ribbon is connected to the right way ? Can you share some pictures to show me what can you read on the LCD ?
Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
Yes I am.
It is showing SO, when powering up the machine then WESO is shown.
What means the additional WE?
What Jumper setting is correct?

What information is needed that you can tell me jumper setings?

2 pictures :
->The floppy emulator lcd screen
->The floppy emulator ribbon connection.
Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
Here are the pictures of the ribbon cable(s).
Normally you put the drives directly to circuit board but the power and data connector differed a little from the emulator bit so I could not connect the drive directly but had to take cables.
A picture from the LCD follows today. The machine is running with real floppys today

Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
Here are the LCD pictures.
My Floppy Emulator settings
load last loaded floppy
2 Drives emulation
Interface setting Drive A and Drive B: IBM PC DD
Jumper setting: physical emulator 0: IDA0 on IDA2 on -> Motor enable a and DRIVE A: (Dip Switch Number 1 and 3)
Jumper setting: physical emulator 1: IDB1 on IDB3 on -> Motor enable b and DRIVE B: (Dip Switch Number 6 and 8)
If I reset the eeprom and use the cfg settings from the software then the left LED of both emulators lits permanently as you can see in my attached picture. (after a while standby...)
If I set the interface settings via menu on the emulator then the left LED of emulator 0 flashes fast and after a while standby flashes not so fast. But left LED of emulator 1 still permanently.
I tried IDA0 and IDB3 both set to off with same results.
Please can you help?

Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
OK, I tried settings for twisted ribbon cable:
IDA1 on (DRIVE A) IDA3 on (Motor enable a) (DIP Switches number 2 and 4) emu 0
IDB0 on (Motor enable b) IDB2 (DRIVE B) (Dip Switches number 5 and 7) emu 1
What happens: The mysterious WE occurs in the LCD ;-) ->>> What does this mean???
Please see the attached picture.
Please can you help?!?!

Re: floppy access LED is permanently lit
First error was IBM PC DD Interface config -> it was a shugart one which was detected by the missing PIN 3.
Second error was the flipped ribbon cable.
Now it works! I have only tested drive 0 but I think second drive will work too. I have only 1 cable at the moment.
Thank you for developing this emulator.
Stay healthy. I wish you all the best.
