Support for TRS 80 Model II family
Support for TRS 80 Model II family
I have some problems reading the TRS 80 8 inch disks for the Model II family.
The current operating system is TRSDOSII version 4.x
This is a 8" disk with 32 sectors per track. The directory is -placed at track 44.
The drive is recognized by the HxC but could not find the directory but
returns with an empty file list.
I'll attach the version 4 system disk.
Would look at the disk and made it possible to use the disks with the HxC adapter.
Thanks
Hans.

Yes this image should work. Are you sure that it is valid ?
Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
Hello Jeff.
Sorry I didn't mention that I was using the Gotek adapter.
I have try the hfe and hfe v2 format without positive results.
To be sure I tested the file on a SD adapter with positive result.

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
hfe v2 is not supported by the gotek firmware. use the hfe v3
Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
Hello Jeff.
I was using a harddisk when I thought I was reading a TRSDOSII disk, not your SD emulator.
I have updated the SD emulator and the Gotek with the latest beta firmware.
I can't read the TRSDOSII disk in either of the two devices.
I got a SEEK error or device on the computer.
On the Gotek the display show reading track 26.
The default values for this disk is. 32 sectors/track. Directory track is 44.
Please find what is wrong.
Hans.

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
how do you have connected the floppy emulator ? Is there another floppy drive installed ?
Which switch / jumper have you set ?

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
I'am talking about a TRS 80 Model II and a Model 12.
Both computers with 8 inch diskdrives.
The emulators are connected as external diskdrives and jumpered as next available drive.
There is no problem with any other software then the TRSDOSII software.
According the specs there are 32 sectors/track and the former version of TRSDOS was using 26 sectors/track.
Accessing the directory shows track 36 on the HxC display, but the directory is at track 44.
Computing 36 / 26 * 32 gives 44 This is the directory track.
Could the number of sectors/track be miscalculated to the go to the selected track ?

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
No this is a 16 sectors per track image (26 for the first track only) and the directory appears to be at track 42.Hans wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 8:58 amI'am talking about a TRS 80 Model II and a Model 12.

Use the track viewer tool available into the hxc software to check the disk format.
Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
Hi Jeff.
This is from the MODEL II service manual:
This is from the MODEL II service manual:
Floppy diskettes formatted under TRSDOS-II are different
from diskettes formatted under TRSDOS. Diskettes formatted
with TRSDOS contain 26 sectors per track. Diskettes
formatted with TRSDOS-II contain 32 sectors per track.
Because of this different format, you can't read or write to
a TRSDOS Formatted diskette directly with TRSDOS-II.
Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
And this is not how is the image you have posted here. Please use the hxc track viewer to see it by yourself.
btw is Model II able to read double density disks ?

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
Hi Jeff.
You are partly right, the TRSDOSII works on the HxC SD emulator.
The problem is the GOTEK emulator. I have try the hfe and the hfe(V3) versions.
The format of the disk is track 0 in single density all other tracks are in double density.
I'am sorry I attached the wrong disk (problem with zippen)
I have attached a new IMD disk (tested)

Re: Support for TRS 80 Model II family
I can't read or write the 26-6501 TRSDOSII disk with the GOTEK.
I have used hfe, hfe(v2),hfe(v3)
Only hfe(v3) doesn't give an error but could not find the directory (Returns an empty directory)
Probably looking at the wrong track.
I can read the 26-6501 disk without any problems with the HxC SD emulator

hfev2 can't be used with the gotek. try the normal version (v1).Hans wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 12:03 pmI can't read or write the 26-6501 TRSDOSII disk with the GOTEK.
