Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
I am struggling to get it right. Did read several posts and still confused. I have just one question. Sorry if it is dumb...
I just bought a FDD-UDD-STD144 and all I want to do at this stage is to add a EPS249OS.hfe image to my USB stick.
As i am running windows XP what SOFTWARE do I need to format my USB stick to the ensoniq format and then copy the image above to the stick?

I think you can't install the HxC firmware on this unit. This doesn't seems to be a Gotek clone. But Please take a picture of the pcb and share it here. Then we will be sure.gkmaia wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 8:51 pmI am struggling to get it right. Did read several posts and still confused. I have just one question. Sorry if it is dumb...

Definitely not a gotek i am afraid...
Re: Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
Thanks Jeff.
How the GOTEKs look like? So I am sure to buy the right one this time.

On your above picture this is the drives with the reference starting by SFR. The SFR1M44-U100K for example is fine with the HxC firmware.

Thanks Jeff.
should i buy the SFR1M44-U100K (1.44mb) or the SFRM72-TU100K (720k) for a Ensoniq EPS or being 1.44 vs 720 it makes no difference in regards to compatibility?

Re: Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
I finally got the new drive.
Did run the following update
https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_driv ... rmware.zip
Please see video attached: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnNGcwr-jeE
When connecting the drive to the EPS I get the insert disk message so I believe the EPS understood there is a drive.
When connecting a pen drive to the drive nothing happens. No LED lights up on the drive neither the EPS tries to read the drive.
Also a photo with my jumper setting.

Re: Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
Some progress... following this thread
https://torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3250
Se the jumper to S0 and renamed all files on https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_driv ... Images.zip and put into the disk.
Also used the CFG file that was inside https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_driv ... rmware.zip
Now the drive flashes and seems to read the USB stick. As I change between disk images it also attempts to read.
But asper video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmailVy4ebc after trying to read I initially get the "disk not formatted" message, then keeps asking to "insert disk".
Attached is an image of the contents and format of the usb stick.

Re: Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
This Gotek is not flashed with the HxC firmware.
You need first to install the HxC firmware (https://hxc2001.com/store/).
A gotek with the factory firmware doesn't work with the Ensoniq EPS.

Re: Format a USB stick as EPS 800kb to then use on a FDD-UDD-STD144
Thanks Jeff.
Just bought the firmware and downloaded serial bridge. I cannot manage to get serial bridge to throw a "device detected" message.
My Serial/usb device appears to be installed at COM6. I am running windows XP by the way.
I suspect this device the serial bridge is trying to detect is the gotek and not the serial/usb device, correct?

So finally got it to work and it did the firmware update. Weird as it toke ages to sync... but it did in the end.
Can you explain why this file needs to be in the usb pen drive root all times and what it actually does?
HXCSDFE.CFG
